Thai authorities arrested nineteen Chinese nationals for running an illegal online gambling operation in three condominium units in Pattaya. Moreover, police estimated the operation brings in 8 million baht daily. Also, the raiding team is composed of tourist, immigration and local police.
Thai authorities raided the rooms found on the seventh floor of a condominium building on Phra Prapanimit around 11:30 PM last Tuesday. They nabbed 19 Chinese nationals inside three rooms.
Also, the raiding team took ten laptops, around 300 mobile phones with prepaid SIM cards, and a log of electronic accounts. Police chief Nanthachart Supamongkhol told gambling news reporters that the raid was the result of their investigation of reported suspicious actions in the condominium units.
Illegal Chinese Online Gambling Operation
People reported the gathering of many Chinese nationals in the rooms. As a result, authorities conducted an investigation. They found an illegal online gambling operation in three rooms.
Pattaya provincial court issued a search warrant leading to the raid last Tuesday night. According to sports news reports, a gambling boss in China hired the suspects. They run the offshore online gambling operation from Thailand.
The Chinese nationals entered Thailand on tourist visas. Then, they set up the gambling operation in the residential units. According to Korean sportsbook sources, police found records at the scene showing the operation had 8 million baht circulating daily. Also, the suspects were paid 40,000 baht each month.
Sports betting odds sites found out that the authorities charged the 19 Chinese nationals of working illegally in the country. Authorities detained them at the Nong Prue police station as they await legal action.
This is good news for the Chinese government. Beijing asked ASEAN nations to fight against illegal online gambling. Some of the Southeast Asian countries accepted the request from Beijing, including Cambodia and the Philippines. In fact, both countries stopped issuing licenses for offshore online gambling.
