Hard Fought Battle for LA Lakers to Bring Home Title
After a long, long season that lasted almost a full calendar year, the LA Lakers have beaten the surprising and talented Miami Heat, to claim their 17th NBA Champion trophy in history.
The 2019-2020 NBA Finals ended up being a real treat for basketball fans from around the world, the NBA Bubble in Orlando proved to be a major success, with ZERO Covid-19 cases reported, and most importantly, the Lakers organization was finally able to deliver and bring the team back up to where it belongs, among the great sports franchises in the world, tying the Celtics’ historical record.
LeBron James and Anthony Davis didn’t leave room for criticism, as they dominated the NBA bubble top to bottom, proving to be the best duo in the league right now, leaving many others behind, at least this season, like Kawhi Leonard and Paul George, James Harden and Russell Westbrook, Jamal Murray and Nikola Jokic, Giannis Antetokounmpo and Chris Middleton, and many others that were in the conversation during the season.
LA Lakers run to their 17th NBA title
It was no easy task for the Lakers, that’s for sure. Going into the bubble was hard for each of the 22 teams that did go to Orlando, resuming the season, getting their rhythm back, staying focused, these were all factors to consider for each and every player.
The path was not easy for the newly crowned champions either, facing the Portland Trail Blazers in round 1, then the Houston Rockets afterwards, the empowered Denver Nuggets in the conference finals, and finally the unexpected, yet super talented Miami Heat in the NBA Finals. However, the Lakers managed to win all of their series, except for the Finals, in 5 games, showing off impressive confidence and power.
The Finals against Miami were a little bit tougher, and hats off here to Jimmy Butler, who had historical numbers in his first finals appearance, but the chip stays in LA’s side, and LeBron James made sure to carry his team to glory, so that he could finally earn his much expected 4th ring, after winning 2 with Miami, precisely, and then one more back in Cleveland in 2016, when the Cavs beat the 73-9 Golden State Warriors. King James was also awarded the Finals MVP, his fourth already, while Anthony Davis, who played a big part in the team’s success this year, got his first championship and is now hungry for more, as he expressed it himself in post finals interviews.
What’s next for the Lakers?
As they say, next season starts right now. Players are back in Los Angeles already for a much-expected family reunion, but they will soon be back in training. Jeanie Buss and Rob Pelinka are aware that, if they want to keep winning, there are a few adjustments that need to be made in the team, starting by getting a shooter. LeBron James is still in great physical condition, AD will be the face of the team after LBJ decides to retire, but the team still needs another star that can complement this duo, to be able to compete next year against a healthy Golden State team, for example, against the Brooklyn Nets with Kevin Durant back from injury, and against all other obstacles that will be there in 2021, without a doubt.
