Senor Buscador broke through the crowd to secure victory at the Saudi Cup at the King Abdulaziz Racecourse on February 24. It was less than a year after he won at the Sunland Park in New Mexico.
As the early pace in the Saudi Cup started to fall, the 6-year-old son of Mineshaft rallied from a distant position. With Junior Alvarado providing a steady hand, Senor Buscador breezed by most competitors in the last 300 meters of the 1,800 meters (about 1 1/8 miles) race on the Saudi track.
Ultimately, Senor Buscador triumphed against Japanese superstar Ushba Tesoro. Also, he got his revenge over his previous two defeats at the hands of White Abarrio, Derma Sotogake, National Treasure, and Hoist the Gold.
According to horse betting software reports, Senor Buscador is the offspring of Rose’s Desert and Desert God. He won his first race at Remington Park at age two, beginning his professional career. After finishing fifth in the Risen Star Stakes (G2) at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots in 2021, he briefly experimented with running in the Triple Crown.

He raced stakes races from Arkansas to California and back to New York, with varying degrees of success each time. A visit to Fincher’s former haunt in the Magic Kingdom was included on the itinerary. On March 5, 2023, only two weeks short of a year before his victory in Saudi Arabia, he won the Curribot Handicap at Sunshine Park.
The three races in which Senor Buscador has participated include the Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) in November, where he finished seventh behind White Abarrio and Derma Sotogake among others; the Cigar Mile Handicap (G2) in December, where he finished second behind Hoist the Gold; and the Pegasus World Cup Invitational Stakes (G1) in January, where he finished second behind National Treasure. All his competitors had rallied behind him by the time the Saudi Cup was over.
It was a massive letdown for people who bet on horses when White Abarrio finished in tenth place. Lastly, we have Derma Sotogake. After having horses place second for the past three years, trainer Bob Baffert was once again let down by Saudi Crown’s third-place performance, which was seven and a half lengths ahead of National Treasure’s fourth-place showing in last year’s Preakness Stakes (G1). After 14 rounds in the Saudi Cup, the cigar winner, Hoist the Gold, finally came home. It was the fifth year of the Saudi Cup. Also, it distributes half of the prize money to winning connections.
