According to chairman Jim Cantle, the club is in trouble due to a nationwide shortage of jockeys in the UK. Permits are being handled individually, but this method has caused some controversy, so the Channel Islands Horseracing Authority (CIHA) has decided to appeal.
According to the horse betting executives, the races were much more competitive since skilled riders from outside the Common Travel Area (CTA) brought their distinct skills. They said that if those riders didn’t turn up, the club’s future would be in danger.
An Australian groom named Stuart received a work visa for the season after an appeal by the Channel Islands Horseracing Association. He argued that the job’s long hours, low pay, and monotony discouraged individuals from entering the sport.

The employment of a racing groom has been included in the work visa policy, according to Minister for Home Affairs Mary Le Hegarat. However, she noted that not all positions classified under that occupation would be eligible for a skilled work permit.
This is because, according to the department, all candidates must fulfill all its requirements, which include a minimum yearly income of £30,000, proficiency in the English language, and the necessary credentials for the position.
Following the lead of other professional sports, including rugby, who have implemented successful models involving seasonal permits, CIHA president Jonathan Perrée has called for a regulatory revision. According to Mr. Cantle, the government and customs officials should show their support and acknowledge that jockeys are athletes.
