If you’ve been in the sports betting business for a while, you know that tennis events like this one, even if they’re not as popular or eye catching as other sporting events, are quite important for bookmakers, as they generate great volume and winnings. This is why we’ll take a quick look at the tournament and favorites to win.
US Open 2020 – General Info
The US Open 2020 will be the second Grand Slam tournament of the year, after the Australian Open, which took place in January, before the pandemic. It will be played from August 31st to September 13th at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, in New York, as usual, with a total prize money of over $53 million, for both men and women.
Roger Federer and Rafa Nadal, two of the best players in the world, as we all well know, will not take part in this tournament, as they are dealing with injuries. Novak Djokovic, #1 in the world right now, will be fighting for the trophy, as will other greats like Dominic Thiem, Daniil Medvedev, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Alexander Zverev or David Goffin.
As per the ladies, #1 and #2, Barty and halep, will not be playing this tournament, first seed is Karolina Pliskova, and we’ll also see Serena Williams, Sofia Kenin and Naomi Osaka, among the big favorites.
Who are the favorites to win the Open in 2020?
No surprise on the men’s side, as Novak Djokovic is expected to take the trophy home, with odds around -140, followed by Medvedev, +450, Tsitsipas +750 and then Thiem with +900.
In the women’s part of the tournament, things are not so clear, Serena Williams and Naomi Osaka are virtually tied, regarding odds, around +350 each, but favoring Serena thanks to her career and experience in this tournament. Kenin, Pliskova, Kvitova and Keys follow them on the list, playing from +1000 to +1600, before the rest of the field.
