The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board had a public hearing for potential satellite casinos in the state. Held in Shippensburg, the regulator wanted the community’s opinion on a casino with bookie project proposed by Greenwood Gaming and Entertainment, owner of Parx Casino.
The proposed satellite casino will be located in Shippensburg. According to gambling news, the state requires mini-casinos to be spread out to reduce cannibalization.
Greenwood proposed the casino with bookie to the community. Also, the PGCB is considering the renewal of the firm’s casino license. In addition, the company hasn’t broken ground on its Shippensburg location.
Parx Satellite Casino with Bookie
A satellite casino can have between 30 and 40 tables, 750 slots, and sports betting. If you want to be a bookie in Pennsylvania, you need to pay high taxes. Also, the state doesn’t allow mobile sports betting as of press time. However, industry observers expect it to launch in the middle of the year.
Parx Casino has around 3,500 slot machines and 130 tables. Also, it has a poker room. Although satellite casino can have one, operators in the state don’t have rooms for poker in their locations. There are no pay per head operators in the state.
At present, there are five of ten satellite licenses still up from grabs. The state generated around $130 million from the bidding process of the casinos. Greenwood got the fourth satellite casino license.
The original winner of the fourth license was Sands Bethlehem Casino. However, the PGCB disqualified the bid because it is too close to a planned satellite casino at Mount Airy. Its winning bid was $9.9 million, but Greenwood paid $8.11 million for it.
Greenwood said it will build the satellite casino near the Interstate 81. In fact, the location is perfect for enticing visitors from Shippensburg. Also, it wants to generate more jobs for the residents in the area.
