Thursday Night NFL Odds – Cleveland Browns vs. Pittsburgh Steelers

Thursday Night NFL Odds – Should we expect choppy offense from Browns & Steelers?

The Cleveland Browns are hoping that they can stay in contention for a playoff berth until DeShaun Watson is ready for action, and that when Watson comes back he can be effective enough to make a difference. Until then, they will have to rely on a ground attack that has enough to get the job done most days.

BetAnySports customers have to evaluate whether the Browns, who have had a couple of cardiac finishes in the first two weeks, have enough to take care of business against the Pittsburgh Steelers in the Thursday night NFL game that is part of the Amazon Prime Video package.

The Browns are the home team, with the game taking place at FirstEnergy Stadium (8:15 PM ET kickoff).

The Cleveland rushing game is formidable, to be certain; they led the league with 5.1 yards an attempt last year. They are on their way to that kind of figure again, but their leader, Nick Chubb, made a mistake that wound up costing them last week’s game against the Jets, when he ran into the end zone rather than take a knee in the final two minutes. You see, the Jets did not have any timeouts and would have had the clock run out on them. Instead, they got the ball back and scored a touchdown, then recovered an onside kick and scored again. According to Pay Per Head Sportsbook news it was all in the last minute and 44 seconds.

Thursday Night NFL Odds – Cleveland Browns vs. Pittsburgh Steelers

So this is quite a psychological blow to come back from, and it is something for NFL bettors at BetAnySports to consider as they see the Thursday night NFL odds:

Cleveland Browns -4.5  (-105)
Pittsburgh Steelers +4.5 (-115)

Over 38.5 Points -110
Under 38.5 Points -110

And hey, don’t forget that you can get reduced juice on this game, improving your price and thus giving you better value!

Cleveland’s stopgap measure at quarterback is to use veteran backup Jacoby Brissett, who at least doesn’t have to indoctrinate himself into the NFL. But things went badly for him last year in his relief stint in Miami, when Tua Tagovailoa got injured. Brissett had just five TD’s in 225 attempts and averaged just 5.7 yards per throw.

He’s at 6.2 at the moment, with 65% completions, and overall, he is doing well enough to get by when he has a ground attack that is working.

According to online football betting sites, Mitchell Trubisky is a guy we’re not so sure about as yet. Unlike Brissett, he has made a trip to the Pro Bowl in the past (2018) and was considered Chicago’s “quarterback of the future” at one point. He is at 5.1 yards per attempt through two games, and his Steelers have barely cleared 500 yards over the first two games. One of those games was a win over the AFC champion Cincinnati Bengals, chiefly fueled by special teams gaffes by the Bengals, who were without their long snapper in the second half.

TJ Watt, a major disruptive force, is out of the lineup for the Steelers, but don’t let all of this tell a story of doom and gloom. There are still some playmakers on the stop unit, including the irrepressible Minkah Fitzpatrick.  And in two games against the Browns last year, the defense that allowed more rushing yards than anyone permitted just 190 yards.

And at least Trubisky won’t have to worry about two monsters rushing him from the edge. He only has one (Myles Garrett), as Jadeveon Clowney is out with an injury.

What we can expect here are two offenses that might crawl a bit, running the ball and chewing clock, with big plays at a minimum against two defenses that are capable. Let’s go UNDER the total here.
