It is bad enough that players cheat on video games. However, cheating while playing poker on stream when competing for real money is another level of stupidity. Thus, PokerStars banned poker streamer Felipe Carmanhani when he was caught cheating red-handed on stream.
While it has happened before—accidentally or intentionally—with Call of Duty streamers, one poker streamer took matters into his own hands in December.
According to sportsbook pay per head reports, the poker community was not pleased when Felipe Carmanhani, a Brazilian player, revealed on a webcast that he was utilizing GTO Wizard, a decision-assisting RTA program.
PokerStars Banned Poker Streamer
Given the gravity of the claims, the poker community was already furious when Pokerstars banned Carmanhanim for two weeks shortly after the occurrence. Thus, he might look for other online poker rooms to play.
Twitch broadcaster Mark “Weazel” Rubbathan addressed the situation and called for a more substantial punishment for cheaters. Because of this, Chris Straghalis, the Director of Online Poker Experience at Pokerstars, felt compelled to reply. Straghalis said Carmanhanim looked at pre-flop records, which led to the first decision. However, he discovered the matter was “more serious than previously determined.”
After reviewing the data, GTO Wizard—the RTA tool that Carmanhanim was utilizing—even prohibited him from accessing its service. Although cheating is against the site’s rules, the streamer’s Twitch account is still live. Also, it is unclear what penalty Pokerstars handed down or whether he is permanently banned.
According to experts on pay price per head online, there have been other high-profile cheating scandals in poker recently. Just last month, someone was accused of winning $3 million by utilizing a see-through deck and special contact lenses.
